Disney Investor Day: Marvel Edition

On December 10th, Kevin Feige announced a boatload of exciting Marvel shows and movies coming over the next three years. Plus, he debuted several highly anticipated trailers for Disney Plus shows including WandaVision, Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If?

Marvel will NOT be recasting Chadwick Boseman as T’challa. Black Panther 2 will be in theaters July 8, 2022.

Guardians of the Galaxy will receive two spin-offs including a holiday special written and directed by James Gunn. It will be released on Disney Plus in 2022. The other spin-off is series of shorts featuring Groot. It’s called I Am Groot, and will feature “several new and unusual characters.” It will stream on Disney Plus. Guardians of the Galaxy will release in theaters sometime in 2023

Ant-Man 3’s subtitle is Quantummania. Katheryn Newton is joining the cast as Cassie Lang, and Jonathan Majors has been officially confirmed to be playing Kang the Conqueror.

A new Disney Plus series, Secret Invasion, was announced. It will star Samuel L. Jackson returning as Nick Fury, and the return of Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, everyone’s favorite Skrull from Captain Marvel.

Another new series for Disney Plus was announced: Ironheart. Dominique Thorne will Riri Williams.

Don Cheadle will be returning as James Rhodes in the upcoming Disney Plus series, Armor Wars. It will be about what happens when Tony’s tech ends up in the wrong hands.

Moon Knight is about a “complex vigilante.” According to Kevin Feige is an “Indiana Jones-story.”

Tatiana Maslany is confirmed as She-Hulk. Mark Ruffalo will be returning as Bruce Banner, and Tim Roth will be returning as the Abomination from The Incredible Hulk (2008).

Hawkeye will be coming to Disney Plus in late 2021.

Here’s a first look at Hailee Steinfeld in action as Kate Bishop.

Christian Bale will be playing Gorr the God Butcher, the villain of Thor: Love and Thunder. It will be out in theaters May 6, 2022.

Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel) has joined the cast of Captain Marvel 2 along with Teyonah Parris (Adult Monica Rambeau). It will release in theaters November 11, 2022.

Xochitl Gomez is confirmed to play America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It will release in theaters March 25, 2022. Kevin Feige describes Director Sam Raimi’s work on it as “scary, thrilling and mind-bending.”

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released on July 9, 2021.

There will be announcements about Blade “very, very soon.”

John Watts will direct the Fantastic Four MCU reboot.

On the Pixar side of things, Chris Evan’s will be lending his voice to the human version of Buzz Lightyear in a prequel called Lightyear. It will land in theaters June 17, 2022.

In other news, Deadline reported that Jaimie Alexander will return to the MCU as Lady Sif in Thor: Love and Thunder. It’s also rumored that she’ll appear in Loki as well.

‘Black Panther’ won an Art Director’s Guild Award for Best Production Design in a Fantasy Feature Film.

’Infinity War’ won four Visual Effects Society Awards including Best Overall Feature, Character Animation (Thanos), Effects Simulation, and Compositing.

‘Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse’ also won four Visual Effects Society Awards including Outstanding Effects Simulations in an Animated Feature, Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature for Miles Morales, Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature, Best Animated Feature.

Freeform announced that season two of ‘Cloak and Dagger’ will premiere April 4.

The Academy announced that Chris Evans, Brie Larson, and Tessa Thompson are going to be  presenters at the 91st Academy Awards. The show will be broadcast on February 24 at 8PM EST.

Marvel Studios released new posters for ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to commemorate the Chinese New Year.

They’ve also released two new ‘Captain Marvel’ posters.

You can now fly “Higher. Further. Faster.” Alaska Airlines has a Captain Marvel themed plane.

‘Captain Marvel’ has officially been rated PG-13 by the MPPA.

In an interview with Collider, the Russo Brothers said that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is still three hours long. Co-director Joe Russo had this to say about the lengthy runtime:

In an interview with Good Morning America, Chris Pratt said that ‘Avengers: Endgame would deliver on “everything promised in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and so much more.”

Discussing Film announced that filming for ’MORBIUS’ has been pushed back to April.

According to Production Weekly, Black Widow’ has been pushed back. It’s expected to start filming in the UK in June.

The Wrap reported that Taika Waititi has confirmed that he will not be replacing James Gunn as director on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.’ He would like to direct another Marvel movie in the future. I hope that he does because I love what he did with ‘Ragnarok.’

In an interview with MTV News, Chris Pratt said that that they will be using James Gunn’s script for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.’ He’s read it and said it’s “off the chain” and “so good.”

During a quarter one earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that ‘Deadpool’ would stay R-rated and that there’d be more R-rated Marvel films in the future.

It was also announced that ‘Captain Marvel’ will not be on Netflix. It will be the first Marvel Studios film on the Disney+ streaming service.

Deadline reported that FX has aquired the rights to air ‘Venom’ and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse on their networks.

Slashfilm reported that X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has confirmed that Kevin Feige will be looking for a new actor to play Wolverine in the MCU.

Michael Douglas (Hank Pym) has said “that there’s been talk” about ‘Ant Man 3’ Nothing has been confirmed, but I’d love if they did another Antman movie!

Non-Marvel related Projects


Variety announced Gwyneth Paltrow’s health and wellness brand Goop is receiving a documentary-style series at Netflix. Episodes will be 30 minutes long and be hosted by Gwyneth and Goop’s chief content officer Elise Loehnen.

According to @BazBam on Twitter, Aaron Taylor Johnson (Quicksilver) has been cast in ‘Kingsman: The Great Game.’

Variety reported Michael B. Jordan’s spy thriller movie ‘Without Remorse,’ based on the book by Tom Clancy, will be released September 18, 2020.

That Hashtag Show reported that Chris Pratt might be the star of ‘The Most Dangerous Game’ for short-form streaming network Quibi. He’d be playing Dodge Maynard, a man “on the run” from hunters who’ve paid  to try to kill him. Every hour he manages survive, Dodge gets their money deposited into his bank account.
